Donovan Does a Podcast

Donovan Does a Podcast – Donovan is a strange breed, born and raised in the deep South, he falls on the left side of the political spectrum. Couple that with no interest in the standard southern faire of fishing, hunting, and sports, but with a passion for all things tech, he’s an anomaly in a sea of cookie cutter “Southernism”. He’s not a believer, always a skeptic, and feels there’s a right way and a wrong way to go about things. He’s opinionated, and at times somewhat brash. That’s what you’ll get when you listen to this podcast, where he shares personal stories, and news of the day he finds interesting, or maybe a specific topic he feels needs further discussion. No subject matter is off limits! You’ve been warned. ;)

Episode 51: So They’re Not Unbanned?

Donovan discusses the CEOs of various social media giants being in a virtual meeting on the Hill – Facebook, Twitter, and Google, and how Ted Cruz went after Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey.  He provides his own thoughts on what’s happening with the social media networks, how much power they actually have, and if there’s anything that needs to be done, or can be done.  He’s especially worried about Section 230 being scrapped. (more…)

Episode 50: Wasted Paper

Donovan drops some technical tidbits about changes to the backend of the podcast, but the main focus of this episode is how companies have so much wasted paper because they keep sending mail to dead people!  It’s something he keeps having to deal with as the 1 year anniversary of his mom’s death is just around the corner, and even on the day of the recording new mail came in for his dad, who’s been dead since 2013!!  How can this be dealt with?!

He very briefly talks politics in regards to the supreme court, and the election, which is only days away on the date of this recording.

Episode 49: Shadow Prime

Donovan talks about his mother’s one year death anniversary (deathiversary?) is coming up in about 2 1/2 weeks; Halloween is on a Saturday this year along with October’s 2nd full moon; a friend and his family have tested positive for COVID-19 so he asks (without naming them of course) that everyone keep them in their thoughts and wish them well; (more…)

Episode 48: Death Planning

Have you made your final arrangements?  If not, has the pandemic made you start thinking about it?  With over 200,000 deaths in the United States due to COVID-19, there’s been a sudden surge in services that help with death planning.  That’s what Donovan talks about in this episode. (more…)

Episode 47: Words Matter?

Ok, so the title is a bit cheeky, but Donovan decided to record something a bit on the lighter side.  First and foremost on his mind — the incorrect use of the word “more”.  He follows up with 12 words that many of us use incorrectly. (more…)

Episode 46: The Notorious RBG

America has lost a national treasure with the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (the Notorious RBG).  Her seat on the Supreme Court now shines a light on how divided America is, and how unjust and unfair the entire political system has become.  Donovan gives his viewpoints on what’s happening and how all he wants is consistency. (more…)

Episode 45: September Trivia

It’s September 1, 2020, and Donovan loves trivia, so he decided to give a little of that back in this episode, specifically concerning September trivia from Project Britain.  From Donovan not being able to say Gregorian Calendar correctly to the shouts of “Mare, Mare”, you might just learn some interesting tidbits about the month that comes from the Roman word “septem”.

Further into the show, Donovan talks about Trump’s EO on payroll tax deferral and why you shouldn’t do it.

Finally, celebrating special events, birthdays, holidays, etc. during a pandemic:  how are you planning to do it for the remainder of the year and possibly next year?  Donovan has some concerns especially since his youngest son and his wife’s birthdays are coming up. (more…)

Episode 42: Buckle Up, Buttercup!

Donovan talks about seeing UPS, FedEx, and other delivery drivers using their cell phones while driving.  Are they exempt from the distracted driving laws of any states?

Working from home…the toll it can take.

Celebrating Christmas with COVID and what that could potentially look like. (more…)
